This is McKenzie, an adorable young girl who suffers from a debilitating and life-threatening condition called mitochondrial disease. The disease deprives her body of energy, limits her verbal communication to only a few words and forces her to be mostly confined to a wheelchair.
Still, Kenzie (as her parents call her) isn't letting that stop her from doing the things she wants to in life. The 12-year-old, who wasn't expected to live past age five, has already competed in over 100 pageants.
"Pageants give her the same opportunity as other children and show people that she can accomplish anything with a little bit of help," her mother, Tammy, told the TODAY show. "I just want the judges to look at her, not her wheelchair."
Another thing we couldn't help but notice was her doting dad up there dancing with her. "Sometimes we'll walk into a pageant and people will ask why we're there. Then we dance, and they say we've inspired them and given them a whole new perspective on life," her father, Mike explains.
In their dance numbers, which include everything from two-step, to hip-hop and even a Waltz, Mike lifts, dips and twirls his daughter while everyone in the audience watches in awe of the amazingly inspiring duo.
Kenzie has already won a whole bunch of trophies and plans to compete in three more pageants this summer. You go, girl!
