Daft Punk is anything but classic EDM. The duo collaborated with mega-producer/artist Pharrell on their latest album Random Access Memories and worked with Kanye West on his upcoming album Yeezus.Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bnagalter are the stars of this electronic music group, which started gaining popularity when the house movement kicked off in France in the 1990s. 5) How did the pair come up with their name? Look no further than Melody Maker's review of their first band Darlin'--the mag called its music "daft punky thrash." Thomas and Guy-Manuel thought the reference was so funny that they used it as their stage name when they formed Daft Punk in 1993.
4) With a "no unmasked photo policy" that dates back to 1996, Daft Punk does not reveal their actual faces. Before they plopped down big bucks for their current robot helmets, the pair sported ordinary masks for photoshoots, including that of Beavis and Butthead, according to Elite Daily.
3) Daft Punk started working on their latest album Random Access Memories in 2008 in Paris...but didn't release it until May 21 of this year. Mega-producer/artist Pharrell appears on two songs on the album, singing on "Get Lucky," and "Lose Yourself to Dance".
2) The group also collaborated with Kanye West on his 2007 hit "Stronger" and made a surprise appearance at the 2008 Grammys, performing the song with the rapper for the first time ever on live TV. The duo also worked on Kanye's upcoming album Yeezus, with Thomas telling Rolling Stone, "It was very raw: he was rapping - kind of screaming primally, actually." Guy-Manuel added, "Kanye doesn't give a f-ck," He's a good friend."
1) Thomas and Guy-Manuel met in 1987 while attending secondary school Lycee Carnot in Paris. They became good friends and formed a band with some other students from the school, which later became known as Darlin', according to Contactmusic.com.
