While attending the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation's 6th Annual Peace, Love and a Cure cocktail reception in Creskill, N.J. Tuesday, the Amazing Spider-Man star said she was "terrified" when her mother was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2008.

"I was oddly stoic, the opposite of how I usually am. But it was terrifying," Emma said.

Her mother, Krista, who was 48 when she was diagnosed with the highly aggressive breast cancer, said, "I'm sure, in private, Em lived in fear and anxiety, but she really shifted into this [mode of] 'We're going to take care of this, and everything's going to be fine.'"

Emma was 19 and living alone in Los Angeles when Krista was diagnosed, but she made sure to fly back and forth to Arizona to be with her mom while she was undergoing chemotherapy and recovering from a double mastectomy, according to People.

Emma's brother Spencer and her boyfriend Andrew Garfield were also on hand for the event, in which the actress presented her mom, who is now cancer-free, with a Courage Award.

Following Krista's ordeal, the mother-daughter duo decided to get matching blackbird tattoos on their wrists, designed by Paul McCartney, according to the Daily Mail.

"We got blackbird feet," the starlet reportedly said of the body art. "It's from that [Beatles] song Blackbird. 'Take these broken wings and learn to fly.' It seemed appropriate for the occasion."
