Paul Jolley on American Idol.
When one door closes, another door opens.

After being eliminated tonight on American Idol, Paul Jolley managed to stay true to his name. He shared his reaction, his hopes for his career and even threatened to pull a Taylor Swift!

It has been one crazy journey for Paul. "I'm so thankful for this experience, from the beginning to now," he told us. "I don't regret anything I've done. I wouldn't take anything back."

Keith Urban was the first judge to approach Paul after the results, "That meant a lot to me because ever since a little kid, he's always been my idol." And Mariah Carey shared words of wisdom. "She was just telling me don't give up, just keep pushing forward and she would love for me to do pop. I love her dearly."

The judges have been suggesting more of the pop and dance genre for Paul, but he knows what he wants. "To each, his own," said the Tennessee native. "Ultimately as an artist, I know what I want to do and showcase. Country was where I was born and raised. I grew up on this music."

Paul hope to follow in the footsteps of one of his idols, who happened to get her start on Idol too. "Through this whole experience I've said Carrie Underwood," he told us. "She started on American Idol, she's country pop," he said, "I want to be that. The male version of it."

The finalist's mentor, Jimmy Iovine, said that Paul made a mistake with his song choice, "I respect his opinion one-hundred percent," Paul said. "I've always looked up to Jimmy."

But that doesn't mean he's looking back. "I still stand by and behind everything that I've done to this point. I might have made a bad decision once or twice, but I don't regret it. It's a stepping stone."

For Paul, it is all about the lyrics, "I chose 'Alone' because till now, I've always gotten by on my own. But now I have my fans, my troopers beside me."

While his fans might have been surprised that he was eliminated tonight, Paul was not. "I woke up this morning and had my moment with God," he told us. "And realized I'm going home today. I knew it in my heart one-hundred percent. In the end God has the bigger plan."

Paul is thankful for the whole Idol experience, but there is one thing he'll miss the most. "I'm going to miss all the other contestants," he said. "We've all become such a close family. They better keep in touch with me because I'm emotionally attached now."

And, just hypothetically, if they don't? "I'll do that whole Taylor Swift thing," he joked. "Don't think I won't!"
