The new animated flick Minions hit theaters this summer, and it has proved itself to be silly fun for the whole family - assuming your family enjoys watching the misadventures of overall-wearing Twinkies, of course. If you've seen the movie, you may be wondering one thing about those little yellow creatures, and that's this: why are they all guys? Creator and director of the Minions film has an answer, and it's almost satisfactory.
In an interview with The Wrap, Pierre Coffin said that there's one very specific reason girl Minions don't exist - and that's that women are simply too smart to get into the trouble that these creatures find themselves in. He told the website:
Hmm... not a bad answer, Pierre. I'm sure that girls everywhere appreciate that you hold them to such high of standard. At the same time, I would have loved to see a few lady Minions running around, even if they were as dim-witted as their male counterparts. After all, women can be anything: even ridiculously dumb creature that looks like a snack food.Seeing how dumb and stupid [Minions] often are, I just couldn't imagine Minions being girls.
If there are no lady Minions in this universe, let's hope the (inevitable) sequel introduces us to another species of brightly colored creature... one that is populated exclusively by women. It's only fair, right?
