It's no secret that
Emma Stone and
Andrew Garfield are extremely private when it comes to their relationship.
Neither one of them have talked about it extensively in interviews and it's rare they answer questions about it at all. That still hasn't changed, but the
Aloha star did open up a
little bit when she was asked about her thoughts on all the
break-up rumors surrounding them. Mainly about why she keeps her personal business to herself.
"See, I never talk about this stuff for this exact reason-because it's all so speculative and baseless," she told the
Wall Street Journal. "Once you start responding-once you're like, 'No, that's not true'-then they're like, 'Well, if we push enough, we'll get a comment, so let's see what else we can make up.'"
"I understand the interest in it completely, because I've had it, too," she continued. "But it's so special to me that it never feels good to talk about, so I just continually don't talk about it." Essentially, she was saying, 'I have said this in a thousand interviews already, so has Andrew, and we're not changing our minds about it.'
It's actually very understandable. Celebrity relationships do tend to get picked apart in the media, so, if they want to keep theirs to themselves no matter what is being said about it, that is just fine. Still, there
was the time when Emma seemed to respond to those reports in her own way when she was spotted walking
around with a bag recently that had "Andrew Garfield" on the side of it in plain view, with paparazzi lurking outside to capture the moment.
She admitted she could've just turned the bag around to hide his name, but, she had another idea in mind. "Yeah," the Oscar nominee said, cracking a smile. "When I picked up the bag, I was like, 'This is kind of funny if there are any [paparazzi] out there.' There's probably some rebelliousness that comes out in me after all these stories and people texting you for weeks about something that, for the most part, is not true. But even when it's false, I would rather just let it be false."
Those stories basically consisted of reports from sources that Emma and Andrew were taking a break because it had gotten too hard for them to be in a relationship after Andrew started working on upcoming
Martin Scorsese flick,
Silence in Taiwan.
Their relationship aside, Emma also revealed why she turned down the opportunity to be in the upcoming
Ghostbusters reboot (we so could've seen her in it). "The script was really funny," she said of the project now starring
Kristen Wiig,
Melissa McCarthy,
Kate McKinnon and
Cecily Strong. "It just didn't feel like the right time for me," she continued. "A franchise is a big commitment-it's a whole
thing. I think maybe I need a minute before I dive back into that water."
Maybe a cameo in
Ghostbusters two? Crossing our fingers.
