I just read Forbes' "The World's 100 Most Powerful Women" list, and it's very inspiring to see. In a world where there are women who do not have a choice to pursue their passions and dreams, there are women who are actually doing it. The list spans across many industries - technology, manufacturing, media, automotive, finance, philanthropy - and there are even several celebrities that made this list. Besides
Taylor Swift, Beyoncé Knowles and few of the other women, the majority of the women's ages ranged between 40 and 80 years old. My how far we have come where a woman's age is disclosed!
I think for any young girl, young woman or even an older woman pursuing her passions, this list could serve as motivation. I also recently read an article titled "6 Iconic Women Who Prove It's Never Too Late to Reinvent Yourself." This article highlighted women who changed and started new jobs later in their professional careers. This proves that there is no one way to reach success when pursuing it on your terms. Now, you maybe thinking that these six women were all established prior to their transformation, but it should also be noted that they were persistent.
As for "Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women," I am sure that these women encountered obstacles themselves, and we all have and will at some point in our professional careers. However, we must remember to be persistent. I am not familiar with all of the 100 women on the Forbes list, but I am going to make it a point to research those I have never heard of. I am always inspired to see and read about women and how they broke through barriers, overcame their challenges and took on that grit attitude to succeed in a way that they themselves could not have imagined.
If you are reading this and feel a little funky about where you are in your professional career, my prescription to you is to not let those self-defeating thoughts or thoughts of others deter you. You have only one physical lifetime on this planet, and it's best to make it the best possible. Do what you need to do to stay inspired and motivated. Keep yourself surrounded around people and experiences that will support you and your growth. We can't always predict what our future holds and the only way to even have that possibility is to hold that vision and work towards it.
Maybe I will never make Forbes list, but it doesn't mean that I am not powerful or less important!
