The model revealed that Rihanna has also kind of doubled as her career counselor, giving her some sweet (and somewhat psychic) advice when she lost a role in a Beach Boys film that never got made. "I was heartbroken," she told the Wall Street Journal magazine.
"With modeling, if someone else gets a job, I'm like, Yeah, of course, there are so many better models," she continued. "But with acting, you grow such an attachment to each role." After the film got scrapped, Cara called Rihanna, who told her, "Everything happens for a reason. You are going to call me back in a week or two and say, 'You are right.'"
That is exactly what happened. Not long afterwards, Cara nabbed a starring role as Margo Roth Spiegelman in Paper Towns over 200 other actresses, partly based on the recommendation of a producer who was working on the Beach Boys project. "We went into the audition with skepticism that she would be right, but her performance grabbed us," producer Wyck Godfrey told the mag.

"I basically gave up on acting, because trying to get an agent was impossible. Everyone said, 'You're just a model,' " she said. "[But], once I had my mind set that I was going to do this modeling thing, I really wanted to beat it, if that makes sense...win it."
And so far, she is. Paper Towns, which also stars Nat Wolff, hits theaters July 24.
