Nicki Minaj and Rihanna might be tied at number one for throwing not-so-subtle shade.Following her BET Awards acceptance speech for Best Rapper, which sent rumors flying she dissed Iggy Azalea in it, the "Pills N Potions" rapper tweeted that what she said was not what it seemed.
"The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different. I will always take a stance on women writing b/c I believe in us!," Nicki wrote. "I believe we're smart enough to write down our own thoughts and perspective, just like the men do. I've been saying this for 5 YEARS."
"I fell in love with Lauryn Hill b/c I knew she was the author behind those amazingly profound and articulated songs on the MisEducation," she continued. "It's the same reason I have a different level of respect for Missy. I know she's a writer and a producer. Women MUST aspire for more. I've congratulated Iggy on the success of Fancy, publicly. She should be very proud of that. All the women nominated should b proud. That will never change my desire to motivate women to write. Our voices have to be heard. I hope I inspire up & coming females to do that."
Rumors have flown that a ghostwriter, possibly even T.I., has been writing Iggy's lyrics. Hence, part two of the subtle shade.When Nicki hit the stage at the BET Awards to accept her award, which Iggy was also nominated for, she said, "What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it...No, no shade. No, no no shade."
In spite of the shade, don't expect any beef between these too any time soon. After twitter blew up about Nicki's speech, Iggy wrote on Instagram Tuesday, "Generally speaking I'm unbothered by anything that 'happened' at the BET awards and just feel worn out by everyone trying to make me have wars with people all the time."
"Anyone who wishes me well is welcome in my life & those who don't can't get any more of my time. I hate to see everyone exhausting themselves on my behalf over things that I'm still not 100% sure even exist & don't matter. just let it go."
