Fifteen-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes set a major Billboard record this week. His debut single "Life of the Party" broke into the Top 25 of the Hot 100, making him the youngest artist in history to debut in the Top 25 with his or her first single.
Haven't heard of Shawn Mendes? You must not be on Vine. Shawn has over 2.7 million Vine followers watching his six-second covers. His Vines and YouTube videos caught the attention of Warner Music, and he was signed to Island Records in May.
Now, Shawn is releasing songs and breaking records. "Life of the Party" sold nearly 150,000 copies in its debut week without any radio promotion, making him No. 1 on iTunes and landing him at No. 24 on this week's Hot 100. This makes Shawn the youngest artist to debut a single in the Top 25 since Justin Bieber released "One Less Lonley Girl" in 2009.
However, "OLLG" wasn't the Biebs first single, making Shawn the youngest artist to debut in the Top 25 with his or her first single ever, and it all started on a mobile app. Now that's just crazy cool. Watch one of his Vines below.
You can catch Shawn on tour with Austin Mahone this summer and get his debut EP on July 21. Watch Shawn's lyric video for "Life of the Party" below.
