It might seem a little bit ironic that a teen who got pregnant is trying to lecture other teens about NOT getting pregnant, but Maci Bookout is hoping other teens can use her life as a learning experience.

Maci got pregnant when she was still in high school and while a lot of people think that she and the other Teen Mom stars have it made because they got paid for the show, Maci tries to show that there's a lot more to the story.

Since the show, Maci has become a public speaker and tries to teach teens the consequences of getting pregnant at a young age.

Thanks to her efforts and the struggles fans have witnessed on Teen Mom, the show and its predecessor 16 and Pregnant are being credited with reducing the number of teen births by at least 20,000 since 2010.

Today, on the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, Maci was honored by The Candie's Foundation along with Vanessa Hudgens and Sean Lowe for their respective efforts to educate teens on the consequences of teen pregnancy.

"Blessed to be honored by the @candiesorg for my efforts in teen pregnancy prevention, on the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. Means so much to me! xo #NoTeenPreg #NYC," Maci captioned a photo of herself at the event.

Some of the other Teen Mom stars have become public speakers and shared their experiences, too. Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra, for example, are often invited to events to speak about adoption, as they placed their daughter Carly with a family on their episode of the show.
