Uzo Aduba is breaking her silence on Julianne Hough's controversial "Crazy Eyes" Halloween costume.
Although the Safe Haven star racked up quite a bit of backlash when she stepped out in blackface for the holiday, the Orange Is the New Black star, who plays the character on the show, isn't reeling from it.
"I think maybe it was an unfortunate event, but she apologized and I feel like we can all move on," Aduba told E! News Thursday.
Following the incident, Julianne wrote on Twitter, "I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New Black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created."
"It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way," she continued. "I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."
Julianne sported the character's signature knotted hairstyle for the occasion as well as an orange prison jumpsuit, but it was her decision to darken her face to portray the African American character that stirred up the controversy.
