On the season five premiere of 'The Voice,' Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green returned to join Adam Levine and Blake Shelton on the judges' panel. In addition, a brand new batch of contestants...
On the season five premiere of The Voice, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green returned to join Adam Levine and Blake Shelton on the judges' panel as a brand new batch of hopefuls took the stage to sing their hearts out.
Before the blind auditions began, the judges took the stage together to sing "I Love Rock n' Roll," where Christina Aguilera showed off her super slim figure and the chemistry between the original four was amazing to see. They are definitely living up to the "reunited and it feels so good" slogan that the show had been using in the previews.
The first contestant was Kat Robichaud, who sang "I've Got the Music in Me" by The Kiki Dee Band.
Her raspy rendition of the '80s song got Blake, Christina and Cee Lo to turn (at the same time, actually), but Adam stayed put.
After a very enthusiastic sales pitch, Cee Lo Green convinced Kat to become the first member of his season five team.
The next contestant was Caroline Pennell, singing "Anything Could Happen" by Ellie Goulding. Caroline was adorably shy about the performance and her nervousness was evident, yet adorable at the same time.
Blake and Cee Lo both turned for the super sweet singer who was thrown off a little bit by Cee Lo's questions, which Adam thought was so cute, telling her she's "like the sweetest thing," while Blake told her she's a "bada** vocalist."
In the end, Caroline became the second member of team Cee Lo.
Next up was Donna Allen, who sang "You Are So Beautiful," which had Adam and Christina turned around almost immediately.
Donna is the oldest contestant in the competition, but she is optimistic and believes that it's never too late to follow your dreams.
Christina and Adam turned very quickly for the soulful singer and while it looked like we might be on our way to a four-chair turn (even Adam admitted that he thought it should have been one), Blake and Cee Lo didn't end up hitting their buttons.
Despite having Blake on her side and arguing that she pushed her button first, Christina lost the big battle and Adam ended up with Donna on his team.
Adam was so excited, he actually ran up on stage and picked her up in celebration, which was one of those adorable candid moments that make us love this show so much.
Jake Worthington was up next singing Georgia Satellites' "Keep Your Hands to Yourself."
Unfortunately, nobody turned for the country singer, but he was adorably humble and just expressed his gratitude for even having the opportunity to sing on The Voice stage, even asking what he could do to improve so that he could come back stronger.
Blake later confessed that he thought Jake was a strong singer, but he wanted to mix it up a little bit this year, so he's not necessarily going to be building such a country-rich team.
The next hopeful was Matthew Schuler, who sang Young the Giants' "Cough Syrup," which was compelling enough to get all four coaches to turn--in fact, Christina and Blake actually went on stage to tell Matthew just how amazing they thought he was.
It looks like Christina's overture worked, because Matt decided her plea to help her become the first female coach to win the show was convincing enough to pick her as his coach.
Next, we saw Nic Hawk who sang "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)" by Blu Cantrell.
When Cee Lo and Adam both turned for Nic, we quickly saw which coach he was leaning toward when he told Adam that he might not be able to concentrate because Adam is "so good looking" (hey, we don't disagree with him). Not surprisingly, Nic picked the sexy superstar to be his coach.
Matthew Brea took the stage next, singing "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5, but unfortunately, nobody turned for the 15-year-old hopeful and he was sent home. He did, however, get a hug from Christina as a consolation prize, so hopefully that helped soften the blow a little bit!
Next, we saw Shelbie Z. who sang "Here for the Party" by Gretchen Wilson.
Perhaps her history competing in beauty pageants helped her be more comfortable on stage, but she definitely exhibited a ton of confidence and Christina, Cee Lo and Blake all reinforced that feeling when they all turned their chairs for her.
Although he was not in the mix, Adam called it right when he said the cowboy boots were a giveaway that she was gunning for team Blake, which is exactly where she ended up.
Josh Logan took the stage after Shelbie, singing "Too Close."
Everyone except Cee Lo turned for Josh. At first, Blake declared that he had a man crush on Josh, but when Adam and Blake's bromance continued to blossom on stage, Josh just let them do their thing and went with Christina instead.
The second to last contestant was Delvin Choice (and his awesome hair!) performing "Closer" by Ne-Yo.
Delvin exhibited a whole lot of confidence, but in the end, it wasn't enough to convince any of the coaches to turn their chairs.
The evening ended with James Wolpert who sang "Love Interruption."
James earned the first four-char turn of the season and had the coaches fighting over who would get to take him under their wing.
Despite Blake trying to use his impressive track record on the show to win him over, Adam ultimately convinced him that he should go with him instead and the four-chair contestant went with the Maroon 5 frontman.
