It all went down sometime this summer when Liam reportedly sent January a text that said, "I want to [expletive] you."

Earlier this year, Miley's man reportedly made out with January at a house party during Oscar season. Although it wasn't confirmed by either actor or Miley, it was obvious he decided to stay engaged to Miley and work things out.
However, his latest sexting incident with January may be the end of their four year relationship especially after there were reports he wasn't feeling Miley's raunchy VMAs performance. There's been talk their relationship is rocky anyway, they WERE supposed to get married this summer and you never see them together!
"Liam and Miley haven't officially split, but it's over...It's just that neither wants to pull the trigger," a source told Us Weekly too.
