The troubled star got hospitalized Monday on a 5150 psychiatric hold after starting a fire. A 5150 lasts only 72 hours, but a judge extended it for 2 more weeks, TMZ reports.
The 27-year-old has reportedly been showing signs of schizophrenia, and today, her parents are heading to court to seek a temporary conservatorship of their daughter.
In order to have the conservatorship granted, her parents must prove that she can't provide for herself or make sound decisions and that they can provide a stable home and care for her.
The centerpiece of their argument is the fire she started Monday, which they feel proves she's a danger to herself and others, according to TMZ.
If the judge does grant the temporary conservatorship, her parents hope to make it permanent, just like Britney Spears' father did for her in 2008.
UPDATE: Nothing was decided this morning because the judge wants to meet with Amanda personally, as well as her doctors, before any ruling about the conservatorship is made. Another hearing has been set for August 9, per TMZ. Amanda's lawyer filed his own request to release her from the 2 week extended hospital stay that was approved Thursday. There will be a hearing today at 2 pm PT at the psych ward and Amanda will be present.
