Christina Aguilera's National Anthem performance at the 2011 Super Bowl was voted "most cringe-worthy" national anthem performance in a recent iHeartRadio poll.Christina Aguilera may know just what to say to the nervous contestants she coaches on The Voice, but that doesn't mean she's never suffered a bad case of the butterflies herself, either.
During the 2011 Super Bowl, XTina took the stage hoping to make our nation proud as she belted out the Star Spangled Banner...but when things went awry about a minute into the patriotic anthem, stunned fans could only watch as things went from bad to worse.
The mortifying moment in Christina's career has now been immortalized in the iHeartRadio hall of fame as the No. 1 "Most Cringe-Worthy" National Anthem performance as voted by their users.
In Christina's defense, it would be terrifying to get up and try to sing such an important song in front of so many people.
After the flub, Christina was "devastated" and issued a heartfelt apology, saying in a statement, "I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."
We have to give it to her... she did handle it like a champ, taking the "show must go on" attitude and fumbling her way through it-- hitting each and every note perfectly (even if they were on the wrong words!)
So, while we don't disagree that it was a cringe-worthy performance, we hope to soften the blow by presenting Christina with our own award for "Most Composed During a Mortifying Moment."
To save you the trouble of Googling it, we've included the video for your reference above!
