Darren Criss honors his late co-star, Cory Monteith, by wearing a black ribbon while attending his latest movie's premiere at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York City on July 15. Only two days after learning of his Glee co-star's tragic death, Darren mourned Cory by wearing a solemn black ribbon on his left lapel to symbolize sadness and remembrance, while on the carpet at Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York City on July 15.Girl Most Likely hits theaters this Friday and co-stars Kristen Wiig as a failed New York playwright who is trying to navigate the transition from being the next big thing to last year's news. Darren plays Kristen's unlikely roommate, impromptu and occasional love interest and friend. The indie film also stars Annette Bening and Matt Dillon.
According to Us Weekly, Darren looked sad, only smiled to pose for photos and obviously wanted to get off the carpet as soon as possible. Who can blame him? It had to be extraordinarily difficult to promote a comedy when Cory's recent death came as such a shock.
While several of Darren's Glee costars have released statements regarding Cory's tragic passing, Darren's bold and silent ribbon spoke volumes as a symbol of mourning. Though Darren attended the screening, he canceled his promotional appearances on both Good Morning America and Live with Kelly & Michael as well as pulled out of the Girl Most Likely press junket. Likewise, Glee costar Matthew Morrison has canceled his performance on Live with Kelly & Michael scheduled for later this week. Both Glee stars are in the process of promoting their new music.
Cory was found dead in a Vancouver hotel on July 13 at the age of 31 after losing his long time battle with substance abuse. He recently left rehab this spring and was spotted globetrotting with girlfriend and Glee co-star Lea Michele, who is grieving alongside Cory's family. A lethal combination of heroin and alcohol was found in the actor's system.
