Jahan Yousaf connected with bandmate Rain Man before they brought her sister Yasmine Yousaf to the group to form Krewella. Check out what else the trio told us about how their band came to be!Electronic dance music group Krewella is killin' it.After forming their group in 2007, the Chicago-bred trio-Jahan Yousaf, Yasmine Yousaf and Rain Man (Kris Trindl) found success with the release of their EP, Play Hard, in 2012.
Now set to embark on a tour in the fall and release their first album this year, the group hit KIIS-FM's Wango Tango and told us how Krewella came to be.
"We were raised on music--Yasmine and I are sisters--and we were raised in a very musically aware household," Jahan said. "I met Kris when I was 16. Before that, I was in choir, Yasmine was in indie bands and [Kris] was in metal bands when I met him. So, I was just going to his shows and he was just programming dance beats as a hobby."
"I saw that as a really special gift that he had and I had never met anyone before that did that," Jahan continued. "So, we just started writing, we tried out a couple girls and no one seemed to be the right fit. And then it just clicked one day. [Yasmine] is my sister. Our voices complement each other. I'm an alto, she's a soprano, and from then it just worked perfectly. It fit like a puzzle."
The group, who has been performing at festivals around the country, is upping their game with a few overseas concerts and a "bus tour" in the states.
"We're going to Europe a little bit, we're going to Asia a little bit and then in the fall we start our first proper tour," Kris said.
While Jahan said they've all been "cooped up in a studio" working on their debut album, the group doesn't have a definitive release date yet, but they told DJZ.com they're hoping to have it out by summer or early fall of this year.
