One Direction love getting tattoos--and they wanted to see what ink their fans had to share as well, tweeting out a request to their Directioners.
Their request was promptly shut down and deleted, after a bit of rumbling that most of One Direction's fanbase aren't old enough to get tattoos.Oops.
On Saturday, the band's official Twitter account posted: "Have a real #1D tattoo? Show us! Submit a 90 sec YouTube video to 1d3dfan@gmail.com and show us why you should be in the @1D3Dmovie!"
Since most of 1D's fans are under age 18, this was not well thought out.
A spokesman for the band released the following statement: "This tweet was posted in error and has now been removed. One Direction do not want to encourage any of their fans to get 1D tattoos."
Of course, with such a huge number of followers, the original tweet got plenty of retweet action and tons of backlash.
