I met my best friend on Christmas last year. We started talking in a group chat through WhatsApp. The chat was for One Direction fans all over the world, and I made a lot of friends there. But the one person I connected most with was Pan. Since Christmas, we've talked every day to each other about everything normal friends talk about. School, family and 1D, of course! We give each other advice and nicknames. We send selfies to each other, and I even sent her a birthday present. We try to be as close to each other as possible, even though we live 2,889 miles apart.

I used to think that Internet friends weren't real. I used to think that you couldn't really get to know someone if you weren't right by her side. I've never been more wrong. There are times when I miss Pan, and I can't wait to talk to her again. It's just like having a real-life best friend, because it is.
You always have to be careful, though, because it is so much easier to lie on the Internet than IRL. Never give out too much personal information while talking online. It is said so often, but it is so important. Make sure you know whom you're talking to. If you're really unsure or uncomfortable while talking to someone online, log off and talk to a parent or someone you trust and see what they think.
I'm so happy to have someone like Pan in my life. Even though we can't always be together, I know she is always there for me. We've been through thick and thin, and we'll stick together forever.
