It's been a busy week in politics. Obamacare prevailed. And the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Monday that only one of the four key parts of Arizona's immigration law is constitutional. The problem is that it's a pretty controversial element that has been deemed legal. The ruling makes it okay for an officer to decide based on their own judgement if they think a person they stop, detain or arrest is in the country illegally and proceed accordingly by asking to see immigration papers.
So where do Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez fit into all this?
As reported in the NY Daily News, Rep. Luis Gutierrez, who chairs the Task Force of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, took to the U.S. House floor yesterday with poster-size photos of Justin and Selena for a pop quiz. He asked which star is the American citizen and which is the immigrant?
The answer, of course, is that Justin is Canadian and Selena is from Texas. And the point is that making assumptions based on names or outside appearances has the potential to be very confusing and extremely embarrassing. The argument against this new law is that it could promote racial profiling--as demonstrated by Rep. Gutierrez's Justin/Selena quiz below (which also includes several other famous pairs).
